The number one grossing film of 2015 is 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens'  Which was written by the following people: Lawrence Kasdan, J.J. Abrams, Micheal Arndt and George Lucas.

It was directed by J.J. Abrams with an overall costing of $861 million. Produced by Lucasfilm and distributed by Walk Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It was released om December 17th 2015, the day before all the schools are to break up for the Christmas holidays as well as for people to take their time off work. Successful films do this so that it means there will be more chance of people going to see their movie as soon as it is released. As if they released it right in the middle of the time where people are at school and work then not many people will be able to see it meaning its success rate will imminently fall down and have had reviews. Due to how many other Star Wars have been made and as them all being extremely successful it meant that the film was already well known and that their would be an excitement for when it is to come out. Many of the Star Wars films have been released over the years. Star Wars is a blockbuster film with the genres of Action, science fiction, adventure, thriller, fantasy and space opera. There is a Star Wars sequel trilogy and is the third trilogy in the American space opera franchise Star Wars.

The second grossing film of 2015 is 'Jurassic World' costing a total of $652 million. It is directed by Colin Trevorrow. Written by Rick Jaffa (screenplay), Amanda silver (screenplay) and Colin Trevorrow.

Dates and school holidays-

All top films of the year were released either just before our around the school holidays. This is a good marketing techniques as it means more people will go to the cinema to see films as kids aren't at school and have a lot more time to do other things.

Which films are on general release?

All the top 5 films of the year are saturated which means they were marketed and distributed

all around the world. This is one of the reasons why these films were so successful as more people could see it being adverted which causes a larger audience to see the film.

What kind of films are these?

3 out the 5 top films were action which suggests that it is the most popular and watched genre out of the range there is. The other film is a family animation which would appeal to mainly kids and families as it is also a type of comedy which kids enjoy. This is in the top 5 because a large amount of kids watch films and as most of them are into the same sort of film like inside out, it would be very successful. Also even though 3 of the films in the top 5 are action, number 1 is a Si-fi film

How many are sequels?

4 out of the 5 films are sequels, some are very late sequels as two of them are the 7th film in the sequence while others like Jurassic world and Avengers are early in the sequence as they are the 3rd sequels. However inside out is the only one which is a stand alone film.

How many are aimed at a younger audience?

Only one of the films are aimed towards a younger audience which is inside out. This shows that younger audiences don't go to the cinema as much as older people.

How many were produced by the big six?

All 5 films were produced by the big six which shows that they are defiantly the biggest production companies

What kind of films are missing?

The type of films which are missing are genres like horror, romance, and adult comedy. This is because these genres don't have an audience as big as the top 5 like action and Si-Fi.
